Pope Clement VI:
He was born in 1291 in France under the birth name Pierre Roger. He later died in 1352 in Avignon, Papal States from illness. Pope Clement was elected as pope on the 7th of May 1342 in Avignon.
Pope Clement was the fourth Avignon pope of the Avignon Papacy and reigned from 1342 to his death in 1352. He was most famous because of his reign during the Bubonic Plague, or most commonly known as the Black Death in 1348. Yersinia pestis was the scientific name given to the disease. Pope Clement granted remission of sins to all those suffering from the plague. Pope Clement isolated himself from civilisation in order to prevent catching the disease. He survived. As a preventive measure, it was said that fire purifies the air, so Pope Clement VI sat in his quarters all day, isolated from everyone, with two burning fires at his sides.

Brother John Clyn:
Brother John Clyn was a 14th century friar who lived during the time of the Black Death. He was born in the year 1286 and died in 1349 and was most likely born in Leinster. Clyn was well educated and may have attended the University of Dublin and in 1336, Brother John Clyn was recorded as the Guadian of the friary of Carrick. He moved to Kilkenny at some point between the years of 1336 and 1348. Clyn also wrote a diary about the time of the Black Death, which is one of the reason why we know so much of the Black Death. He then later died from the plague.
The only link between Pope Clement VI and Brother John Clyn is that they both lived during the time of the Black Death.
